Hello, my name is Alejandro. I’m a Florida licensed massage therapist [MA103176] specializing in postural and scar tissue restoration
I graduated from Florida International University with a B.A. in philosophy & psychology with an interest in philosophy of perception & the mind-body problem
My philosophy and approach…
My practice is based primarily on my experience having gone through cancer treatment and my understanding of biotensegrity. The goal of my approach is to improve posture by focusing on the tensional tonality of the body’s myofascial system.
Posture is the form of the body. It is the spatio-temporal architerual organization of the body’s potential for action. The organizational architecture of your body allows for the actualization of breathing, walking, talking and all other bodily actions.
Bodily pains such as back pain, neck pain, headaches, and temporalmandibular joint (TMJ) pains can be associated with posture. A foundation to my approach is based on principles from the Postural Restoration Institute (PRI) which appreciates the body’s asymmetrical constitution and biotensegrity’s helical geometry application on organisms’ structure.
Given my surgeries, I also specialize in restoring scar tissue based on research by Sharon L Wheeler. In short, I use manual and movement techniques to help improve the body’s soft tissue structure and function.
The paradigm I ground my approach is based on a holistic view of the body. In particular, a mechanical holism. The current orthodox view of the body began in the 16th century with the work of Vesalius places emphasis on the body as a structure composed of locally interacting parts. Contrast to a holistic view, this orthodox view is a reductionistic one. That is, it focuses on the individual parts instead of the whole.
If areas of the body such as the pelvis and the rib cage are in a better position and relation to each other, then that will improve breathing function.
