Meeting - June 27th 2023
Hi Dr. Leboeuf,
I was hoping of using this private blog as a way to share information and resources with you more conveniently. I divided into three sections. The first is an overview of what Im hoping to achieve with our meeting. The second is something relevant to the topic at hand. Finally, I’ve used the last section to list link where you can find drafts of my graduate application materials.
For today’s meeting I was hoping to touch upon the following:
Discuss the marketplace of ideas, intellectual property, and the competitiveness of academia
How to protect oneself?
Share a new conceptual model of the body
The Neuromyofascial Web model vs The Musculoskeletal System model
Fascia as the timpani of the body
Kundalini, beyond a brain network
How this applies to Todes work
Merleau-Ponty’s Gestalt applications on the physical body
The affective aspect of physical therapy and therapy as a whole
Is a mental health perspective causing more harm than good?
SOP
Highlighting the importance of lived experiences vs keeping it formal
Academia, social media, and online communities
*Not expecting to touch upon everything, just something to serve as our center of gravity.

Here’s a wonderful short introduction to the concept of the Neuromyofascial web. I just call it myofascia. But important to note, it does have nerve receptors for movement, pain, and pressure; much like the rods and cones of our eyes. Moreover, it wraps around every structure of the body, so its a whole-body approach to therapy and self-knowledge.
The gentleman in the video is Thomas Myers. He was a student of Ida Rolf, a PhD biochemist and creator of Rolfing. Rolfing is a bodywork modality which uses slow and deep pressure to reconfigure the tonality and directionality of the fascial web. Myers also studied with Buckminster Fuller one of the pioneers of tensegrity.
By synthesizing Rolf’s work with Fuller’s, Myers has become very influential among good physical therapist with his whole Anatomy Trains project.
